"Sheriff Tilley Elected"
The election results came in last night and showed the winner to be Sheriff Eric Tilley.
Each district showed Eric Tilley to be the winner in a very exciting race for the Sheriff's seat. The final results showed an almost two to one ratio for the appointed Sheriff, who had filled the spot since Ralph Robinson passed away two years ago this month.
David Shaffer had given some opposition to the race, when he filed a petition from the people of Perquimans County. David will remain as Chief of Police in Winfall, and he called Sheriff Tilley to congratulate him right after the results rolled in.
Eric has been in law enforcement for the past 14 years, and he's gotten his feet wet with filling the Sheriff's spot these last twelve months. He has the status of Sheriff Elect now that this race is over. I'm sure he's going to put his best foot forward in keeping up with the job.
We had a really wet time at the polls with the weather turning so nasty. Today isn't any better since I haven't heard the rain stop since I woke up. Regardless of the weather conditions, there was an over 80% turn out in some districts for people voting this year. That's a really high number considering most people had just gone to the polls last month.
I'd like to formally Congratulate Sheriff Eric Tilley, and I'm sure the people of Perquimans County will be supporting him through these next four years.
