"Mystery Solved"

The yellow flies were traced to the man with the lawsuit against Sheriff Tilley.

Whether the person thought he was doing a favor for the opposition or throwing a wrench in the Sheriff's election at the last minute ... is something he alone can answer. Both sides received a black eye over the incident with the election only days away.

From what Sheriff Tilley explained the man had been burning household trash, and was asked to stop. It's against the law in NC for anyone to burn other material besides tree debris, leafs, and regular yard waste. The Recycle Centers are used for all other types of trash, and offer a wide variety of bins for different materials to be recycled.

This man then started calling 911 to report any outside burning, even though the other people had the proper burn permits. The Fire Marshall called the Sheriff's Department to ask for help in preventing this person from having the Volunteer Fire Fighters running out on bogus calls.

Sheriff Tilley talked to the man himself, and asked that he not continue to turn reports in for simple yard burnings that were not out of hand. He was thanked when he left, but the man then placed a $10 million dollar lawsuit against the Sheriff and the county. He contends that his rights have been violated since he was asked not to call 911 to protect his family or property anymore.

The fliers and the names of the people involved were published in the Daily Advance yesterday, as people were getting ready to run to the polls. It's hard to say if this had any bearing on the election results, but it's a shame people can be so vicious when it comes to politics.

You can read more about this in the Daily Advance site with the article Tilley is target of suit, leaflets in Perquimans.
